Day 5 Recap: Tough Conditions at the 2025 ILCA U21 Europeans

It was the fifth day of racing at the 2025 ILCA Under-21 European Championships & Open European Trophy in Split, Croatia — a long and testing day for both sailors and the race committee.

Racing was delayed at the start of the day due to a lack of wind, with a two-hour postponement on shore. Once conditions improved, the ILCA 6 fleet was the first to hit the water at 11:30, followed 20 minutes later by the ILCA 7 Gold fleet, and another 20 minutes later by the ILCA 7 Silver fleet.

Once on the course, sailors found around 10 knots of breeze, but the opposing current made it challenging for the Race Committee to set the course. After some delays, the ILCA 6 fleet got their first race underway at around 14:30 in lighter 7-knot winds. They managed to complete both scheduled races for the day, with the current no longer being a major issue by the time their second race began.

The ILCA 7 fleets also faced several general recalls before getting their races underway. While the Gold fleet completed both scheduled races, the Silver fleet only managed to get through one race due to a wind drop late in the day.

After finishing their races, the sailors returned to shore around 18:00, exhausted but satisfied after a long and demanding day on the water. Back at JK Mornar Yacht Club, they were greeted with a warm meal — a well-earned reward to recharge and prepare for the final day of competition tomorrow.
